Dr. Jetho Lalwani
Born on 8 March 1945 at Kandyaro, Nawab Shah, Sindh, Dr Jetho Lalwani has achieved literary eminence not only in Sindhi but also in Guajarati and Hindi languages.
Dr Lalwani is also renowned as a talented theatre person. Lalwani is a fiction writer, essayist, critic and a scholar in folk literature. His seminal work – “Sindhi Folk Songs of Banni” added laurels to his literary career. Dr Lalwani began his career as a librarian, the job that offered him opportunity to read innumerable books of his interests which later would evolve into profound scholarship and creative expression.
Dr Lalwani has been chief editor of magazine titled “Stage”, worked as the Director of National Council for promotion of Sindhi language [NCPSL], Secretary of Sindhi Academy, Delhi, Vice chairman of Gujarat Sindhi Sahit Academy and many others. His passion for Sindhi language and commitment to literatures never restricted him to transcend geographical borders to significantly contribute to the domain of culture. His oeuvre includes more than 130 books. He is recipient of Gaurav Puraskar by Sindhi Sahit Academy and Sindhi Natya Kala Gaurav Award by Gujarat Sangeet Natya Academy, Government of Gujarat, Sindhi Children Literature Award and Sindhi Translation award by Central Academy, New Delhi. Lifetime achievement award by NCPSL. Recent to this addition is Sahit Academy award for his work – Jihad in 2020. Dr Lalwani continues influence contemporary Sindhi readership with his writings, research and intellectual discourse.
